2013 Reflections

I liked swimming. It is fun to be in the water during summer when it is so hot. I enjoyed maths because I learnt new strategies and I have improved in lots of areas.

The Fia fia night was fun. All my friends and I dressed in our best cloths and came and watched some children perform some dancing. it was fun watching people dancing.

I liked the trips, especially because we went by bus. We went to the Zoo, the Manaiakalani film festival and the Stardome.

The Prize Giving was fun. I enjoyed it because some guests came and the children were presented with certificates. My older brother got a certificate and he also spoke on the stage with Christian.

Thank you Mrs Moopanar for being a good teacher and for helping me to improve in my writing, reading and for taking us for PE. Happy Christmas Mrs Moopanar and Ms D.  

3 D Fish

I created a 3D (stuffed with newspaper) fish for the Rotary Xmas function.

First, I drew my fish on white paper. Then I cut it up. Next I painted it. Thereafter I added some glitter to make it pretty. Finally I stuffed it with newspaper.

My 3D fish looked beautiful!

Alfred's Painting

Transport painting:
First I did three sketches of different types of transport and I chose my favourite one to paint. Next I drew my design onto a piece of card then I went over the outlines in vivid ready to paint. I then had to rub out the left over pencil lines and started painting. :)

Alfred's time machine adventure

In the past I built a time machine to go to the volcano.

First I was on the volcano . Next there was some lava. Then I fell into the lava but a helicopter came to save me.

And I lived happily ever after.

Printmaking

I created this print by making the image on a block using card. Then I rolled an even coat of ink over the surface and placed paper over the block applying pressure using my hands and a roller to transfer the print.

I used lego to make a toy plane.

Tank

I was able to cut out the parts from a picture and invent a Thing-A-Me-Jig by rearranging the parts.

All about me flower

I created an “All about me” flower. In my flower I described my gender, my ethnicity, my age, my year level and my favourite fruit.

How to make porotaka

To make a porotaka I used two strips of flax at least 30 centimetres long.

The strips were both the same width. 

First I folded strip A. 

Then I placed strip B inside the fold of strip A.

Next I weaved strip B around strip A.

Thereafter I pulled the four ends tightly to form a square.

Then I trimmed the blades so they are all the same length.

Finally when I finished making my porotaka, I pinned it to a stick.

How to make a porotiti

First I cut a circular piece of thick cardboard about the size of a coffee cup.

Then I designed my circular piece of cardboard using different coloured crayons.

Next I pierced two holes in the centre of the cardboard circle about 1 centimetre apart.

Thereafter I threaded a piece of string through the holes. I tied the ends together into a sturdy knot, creating a large hoop.

Finally I had a porotiti ready to go!

A strip of Aotearoa

Firstly I drew the sky, mountain, river, land and sea on a strip of paper using a pencil.  I then used a vivid to go over my drawing. Plant sketch

I was able to sketch a plant using pencil. Then I used chalk on the pencil outlines. Next I used pastel to colour it in. Finally I used glitter to make my work look pretty.

Animal pollinated flowers

They have large, brightly coloured petals to attract insects.

They are sweetly scented and contain nectar to attract insects. The pollen is sticky to stick to insects. The anthers are firm and inside the flower to brush against insects. The stigma is inside the flower so that the insect brushes against it.
