Softball

On Tuesday 25 November 2014 Room 8 had softball coaching on the Glenbrae School field with Melissa and Zoe.

Tornado in a bottle

MATERIALS:

• mayonnaise jar or a canning jar
• clear liquid soap
• vinegar
• water

PROCESS:

Fill the jar about three-quarters full of water.

Put a teaspoon of the liquid soap into the jar.

Also, add a teaspoon of vinegar into the jar.

Tighten the lid and shake the jar to mix up the ingredients.

Now, swirl the jar in a circular motion.

The liquid will form a small tornado.

*If you want to get creative, you can also use food coloring to make the tornado have a color and glitter to represent debris

EXPLANATION:

The swirling motion you give the bottle forms a vortex and is a easy way to create your own tornado.

Dance fever

On Thursday 20 November 2014 Room 8 had Dance Fever in the hall with Brendon and May.

Athletics day

19 November 2014 - This morning our school had athletics day. Room 8 participated in Shot put, Discus, Sprints, Relay and High jump.

MAKING A VOLCANO

ROOM 8 used baking soda and vinegar to create an awesome chemical reaction! 

What we needed:
Baking Soda
Vinegar
A container to hold everything and avoid a big mess!
Paper towels or a cloth (just in case)

Instructions:
Place some of the baking soda into your container.
Pour in some of the vinegar. Watch as the reaction takes place!

What happened?
 The baking soda  was a base while the vinegar  was an acid. When they reacted together they formed carbonic acid which is very unstable, it instantly broke apart into water and carbon dioxide, which created all the fizzing as it escaped the solution. For extra effect we made a realistic looking volcano. It took some craft skills but it made our vinegar and baking soda eruptions look even more impressive!
