Printmaking

I created this print by making the image on a block using card. Then I rolled an even coat of ink over the surface and placed paper over the block applying pressure using my hands and a roller to transfer the print.

My Favouite Animal

My favourite animal is a bull because it is very tough. A bull is a vertebrate because it has a backbone.

My Holidays

Would you like to know about my holidays. In the Holidays I went to Napier by bus to see my aunt, uncle, grandad and my grandma.

I went to the movies to watch “Cars two” and “Transformers three”. Both movies were really enjoyable. Then we went to McDonald’s for lunch. I had a Big Mac which was yummy.

I enjoyed my holidays because it was fun.

Reflections on Air

I learnt that Chinese people live in such polluted cities, that the air they breathe is equivalent to smoking two packs of cigarettes per day.

Term 2 Reflection

Would you like to know about what Room 8 students have learnt about in Term 2? We learnt about air. There are good things, bad things and interesting things about air.

The bad thing is air pollution. Air pollution kills about 4.6 million people each year. The good thing about air is that we can breathe in clean air. The interesting thing about air is that it is stronger than water.

I did not like term 2 because we did not have get our net books. Finally term 2 is over after 11 weeks. Yay! It's the hloiday at the end of the week.

A good use for cobwebs

Have you ever had a story called “A good use for a cobwebs?”

A long time on a stranded island called Hawiaki their lived a giant bird called Matuku who ate everyone when they crossed past his cave and used their bones to build his fence. Matuku captured an old warrior called Wahieroa and the servants. Wahieroa’s son, Rata promised to capture Matuku to stop him from eating people that went past his cave.

Rata’s spider made a net out of cobweb to capture Matuku. When Matuku came out of his cave Rata captured Matuku. They cooked Matuku, ate him and used his bones to complete his fence. They also freed the servants.

The Goblin's Show

Yay! Last Thursday Glenbrae  School Students went to the Glenbrae school hall to watch a play called  “The Goblin’s Tale”.

When we got inside the hall there was a prisoner and he was dusting things that were on the play. There was a knight , a goblin , a dragon and some really big mouths and a curtain and it talked .

I learnt to believe in myself.

Assembly

Hooray! It was assembly time at the Glenbrae School Hall. The whole of Glenbrae School was there including teachers and parents.

Then Brandon said that we had to stand up and sing a song called “I believe I can fly” by R Kelly. Next it was certificate time. First it was the junior school. Then it was the senior school.

Thereafter Miss Elia told us the news . Then we said the karakia. I was idol nervous because I thought I was on American Idol.

Rugby

Yay! Last Wednesday Room 8 students from Glenbrae School went to the courts with Mrs Moopanar and we saw Hamish waiting there ready to teach us rugby.
We went on to the courts to play Rats and Rabbits. We had to touch our partner. Then we played bull rush and I was the tagger.
I learnt how to play bull rush which was really fun.

Road Safety

Yay! Last Thursday Room 8 students went for a walk with Constable Julie and Mrs Kelly. We went down Fenchurch Street. There we practised how to cross the road properly.

We walked past a creek and it had heaps of hazards like old furniture and it could block the drains and flood it.

When we got back to school I was exhausted but it was really fun and interesting because I learnt about Road hazards.

Make a Porotaka

Make a Porotaka

Have you ever wondered how a porotaka is made?

To make a porotaka you will need two strips of flax at least 30 centimetres long. The strips should both be the same width.

These are the steps you need to follow:
1. Fold strip A
2. Place strip B inside the fold of strip A.
3. Weave strip B around strip A as shown.
4. Pull the four ends tightly to form a square. Trim the blades so they are all  the same length.
5. Nail or pin it to a stick.

Life Caravan

Yesterday 10 March 2011 Room 8 students went to the life caravan . Cindy told us the rules that they had to use in side the caravan.

Cindy picked some blood doctors and some Tam doctors. One person was chosen for each thing. Cindy gave prizes to the people who were giving good ideas.

I enjoyed the life caravan because I learnt about my body.

Water is important in our daily lives we need water for drinking, swimming, having a shower, washing our hands, washing dishes ,washing our clothes, making ice washing our cars , and watering our crops

What is the water cycle?

The sun evaporates the water from earth. The water condenses into droplets of water in clouds .The water then comes in the form of rain called precipitation. The water collects into river, oceans, seas, lakes, steams, drains, creeks and dams.

How does water affect life on earth?

When we have little or no water there is a drought. When there is a lot of water a flood occurs.  Floods and droughts can cause damage to building, crops, people and animals

Fun Water Day

Last Thursday the 17th of February 2011 at 9.30 am Glenbrae School had a fun water day .There were heaps of games and heaps of adults. They wore and the colour that their kids were in.

All the games were on the court and the field .The games were called three legged race, water slide, zig zag, t-shirt race, walking the plank and running with the cups. There were two bins. One of them was red and the other one was yellow.When we finished all the people were screaming. Then I tried to block my ears. I could still hear them. It was like there were one million babies and one thousand kids screaming over a little bit of water.All the kids had to wear the colours that they were in. Some people were wearing red and some people were wearing yellow clothes. Some people from room 7 had pink paint. They thought it was sunscreen and so did we.

It sucked because yellow team won. I was in red team. It’s okay because every one participating in the Fun water day. It’s about having fun and getting wet. The teachers got wet as well

My Holiday

During the holiday my family and I went to the Waiwera.

My brother and I went down all the hydro slides. My mum gave me twenty five dollars and I bought a big chocolate cake. It had heaps of lollies all over it too and white chocolate icing over the yum chocolate cake.

When we got home I played on my x box 360 connect with my three friends. I won the first and second game and my friends won the third and fourth game. Then we had to go to bed.

I enjoyed my holiday because I had fun.
