Room 8's Science Study
Hello everyone,
We are working very hard in Room 8 at Glenbrae School at present. For Science we are studying "Habitats and Adaptive Features" of all living things. We have had many interesting discussions about this topic and have even done a huge brainstorm about the different places where living things live. Our understanding of the word "Habitats" is a place where living things survive, thrive and reproduce. We have been learning that for living things to survive in its natural habitat, they need water, food, sunshine, shelter and oxygen. Only then will they be able to reproduce. This will help them from becoming endangered and/or extinct. At the moment we are doing some research work and will be producing some interesting projects closer towards the end of term. Room 8 will be more than happy to share these projects with you.
We have also posted a copy of one of our group's brainstorm of ideas. We hope you find it useful.

A perfect holiday activity-Making Recycled Paper
Don't know what to do with that Christmas paper, that was used to wrap your present. We've got the answer for you!!! Use it to make recycled paper. If holiday boredom has got to you and you don't know what to do then this might be a perfect holiday activity to do. Just remember to ask Mum and Dad about using the Equipment and keep safe around using the appliances. This is a great activity to do, and your recycled paper could be used for: writing Thank you Letters to your friends and family, Making Cards, Mini Posters etc. When you've finished making your recycled paper, let it dry and then peel it off the boards. Six Cups of ripped paper makes about 4-5 sheets. You can mix your colours together or use separate colours. You can use glitter, once it is beaten up or you can use flower petals or fragrances such as lavendar. Enjoy making your recycled paper.
Christmas Greetings

We would like to Thank you all for tuning in to listen to our podcasts and visiting the blogsite during 2008. At the moment the schools are closed for our long Christmas Holidays, but there will still be posts/podcasts on this blogsite for you to enjoy.

Room 8 Tells Tales
These are not the every day tales that are made by students. These tales are based around Modern Day Fairy Tales. Each of the students stories have their own Super Hero and Arch Villain. As part of the Narrative Writing process we used this structure:
Orientation:-introducing the main characters, setting, time etc.
Problem:-outlining the problem the main character is experiencing
Sequence of events:- the lead up after the problem.
Resolution:- how the problem is solved
The common themes of the stories were based around bullying, stealing and tagging.

Lost Dog Advertisements
This term we have been very busy writing Lost Dog Advertisements for the Chinese Crested Hairless dog. The Chinese Crested Hairless dog was chosen because it is different to the ordinary every day dog and it gets the children thinking about this dogs unique qualities such as its physical appearance and it's health problems through being hairless. The writing was made into posters and then made into podcasts. All advertisements are fictional-There is no lost dog, but this exercise has taught the children a number of things: how to write an advertisement for a lost pet, providing sufficient detail on the appearance of the dog, the date, time and place it went missing and contact details.
We hope you enjoy listening to our podcasts.
