2013 Reflections

I enjoyed my time in Room 8. I had great fun during Dance Fever and Get Set Go. I like when our teacher takes us out for PE  and how she teaches us writing, doing art, reading and maths. I liked how she taught us swimming at the beginning of the year.

I really loved the Matariki Ball. My sister and I got to dress up really nicely in our best dresses. I danced with my friends and it was so coo...ool. The other grand thing was the Fia fia night. I  was performing with my friend Caroline and her family. We had to practice at Caroline's house every day for two weeks.

For the Guided Inquiry Learning, we had two presentations . One on Transport and one on Heat On the Move. I had to do a presentations both times. I loved it.

I enjoyed typing my work and sending it to my teacher.I would like to say thank you to my teacher for being so kind and helpful to me. Thank you Ms Moopanar for being my teacher.

My 3D fish

I created a 3D (stuffed with newspaper) fish for the Rotary Xmas function.

First, I drew my fish on white paper. Then I cut it up. Next I painted it. Thereafter I added some glitter to make it pretty. Finally I stuffed it with newspaper.

My 3D fish looked beautiful!

Aaliyahna's Painting

Transport painting:
First I did three sketches of different types of transport and I chose my favourite one to paint. Next I drew my design onto a piece of card then I went over the outlines in vivid ready to paint. I then had to rub out the left over pencil lines and started painting. :)

Printmaking

I created this print by making the image on a block using card. Then I rolled an even coat of ink over the surface and placed paper over the block applying pressure using my hands and a roller to transfer the print.

How to make porotaka

To make a porotaka I used two strips of flax at least 30 centimetres long.
The strips were both the same width.
First I folded strip A.
Then I placed strip B inside the fold of strip A.
Next I weaved strip B around strip A.
Thereafter I pulled the four ends tightly to form a square.
Then I trimmed the blades so they are all the same length.

Finally when I finished making my porotaka, I pinned it to a stick.

How to make porotiti.

First I cut a circular piece of thick cardboard about the size of a coffee cup.
Then I designed my circular piece of cardboard using different coloured crayons.
Next I pierced two holes in the centre of the cardboard circle about 1 centimetre apart.
Thereafter I threaded a piece of string through the holes. I tied the ends together into a sturdy knot, creating a large hoop.

My treasure.

My treasure is a fine mat.
It is from New Zealand and some banana leaves from Niue.
It looks like a square shape and pretty.
It is almost 5 years old.
It is special to our family because it was for my cousin's hair cutting.  My grandmother did not finish it so my aunty had to finish it.

How do plants grow?

http://www.janinesgarden.com/images/drought_tolerant.jpg
The plant starts off as a seed.
Inside the seed is the embryo.
The embryo turns into a seedling and then into the plant.
Flowers produce seeds before they die.

When seeds reach the ground new plants grow.
