A good use for cobwebs

Have you ever had a story called “A good use for a cobwebs?”

A long time on a stranded island called Hawiaki their lived a giant bird called Matuku who ate everyone when they crossed past his cave and used their bones to build his fence. Matuku captured an old warrior called Wahieroa and the servants. Wahieroa’s son, Rata promised to capture Matuku to stop him from eating people that went past his cave.

Rata’s spider made a net out of cobweb to capture Matuku. When Matuku came out of his cave Rata captured Matuku. They cooked Matuku, ate him and used his bones to complete his fence. They also freed the servants.

The Sun and the Tornado

Have you ever heard of a story called “The Sun and the Tornado”.

Long ago the Tornado and Sun were having an argument about who was stronger.

One day there was a storm coming. The Tornado said, “I am stronger than you” to the Sun. An old lady was walking down the street the tornado tried to take off the lady’s jacket by blowing hard but she held on to her jacket tightly. So the sun had a try and the lady got hot and took off her jacket off .

The argument was settled once and for all. The sun proved to be stronger than the tornado.

A trip to the Airport

Yay! We were going off to the Auckland Airport. The students from Rooms 7, 8 and 9 of Glenbrae School travelled by bus to the airport. We went there to learn about Jean Batten and Air.

A lady called Barbara and took us to around and she gave us flags so that we could wave the flag up in case we were lost. Then we stood up and followed Barbara around the airport. Next we saw a board and it said what time do we go and when do we go. After that we saw Jean Batten’s plane.

Suddenly there was a fire alarm and we had to evacuate the building. We then got back to school. I enjoyed my visit to the airport and I learnt a lot about air.

We then went back to school by bus. It was fun at the airport and I learnt many facts about flights and Jean Batten.

The wind and the sun

http://www.astronomynotes.com/starsun/sun-rotation.gif
Did you ever wonder what the wind and sun were arguing about? Once upon a time the wind said to the sun, “I am stronger than you.”

They saw a traveller walking pass. They both tried to get his cloak off. When the wind tried the man held his cloak tightly. When the sun shone, the man took his cloak off because her felt hot.

Finally the sun proved that he was stronger. than the wind.

Gymnastics

Yay! Yesterday Room 8 students went to do gymnastics at the Glenbrae School hall and there was Donna and James ready to teach us. There was new equipment.

Mrs R Moopanar came too. There was group 1, group 2, group 3, and group 4. I was in group 2. We had to go on the hopscoth and we did the landing shape. It was so fun and tricky but we tried hard.

When we went around the four equipment stations, we lined up and said ‘Thank you’ to Donna and James. It was exciting because we never pushed and no one cried. I learnt my landing shapes and my sitting positions.

A good use for cobwebs

Have you ever heard of a story called ‘’A good use for cobwebs?” A long ago on the island of Hawaki there lived an giant bird called Matuku. He caught anyone who passed his cave, cooked them, ate them and used their bones for his fence.

Matuku captured Wahieroa, an old warrior and his servants. Rata promised to capture Matuku with his spider Pungawerewere. They saw a river. Pungawerewere decided to make a cobweb to cross the river. Pungawerewere asked the wind to blow the cobweb across the river. Pungawerewere made a noose from the cobweb and tied it up the tree.

They captured Matuku and cut his head off. They cooked him, then ate him and let the servants out of his cave. They used Matuku’s bones to finish off his fence.

Matuku captured an old warrior called Whairoa, ate  him and used his bones to make a  fence. Whairoa’s son Rata was angry when he heard  that his father got eaten by the bird. So Rata asked his spider, Pungawerewere to make a cobweb to capture Matuku. When Matuku came out of his house Rata threw the cobweb noose over Matuku and managed to capture him.

Assembly

Yes! Last Friday Room 8 presented an assembly item called “I believe I can fly.”

In the after noon we had to go quickly to the hall to get ready for our item. Eventually Brandon had to stand up and say his words. Before he said his words Room 8 students had to sing the song by R. Kelly. Next Tauola had to say the karakia.

When it was finished we had to go back home. I enjoyed it.
